● Netherlands · Yamaha R1M · Petrol in the veins

Born flat.
Built for corners.

A country without mountains raised a rider who chases every bend he can find. Dike roads at dawn, laps at Assen, long runs south to the Ardennes, all on a crossplane R1M.

The
machine

The Yamaha YZF-R1M: MotoGP-bred and road-legal, with more electronics than a lot of cars. It's the top-spec R1, with carbon, Öhlins and data logging.

Engine
998cc

Inline-four with a crossplane crank, for that uneven, big-bang howl.

Power
200hp

Roughly, in its most powerful versions. More than enough for any Dutch road.

Suspension
ÖHLINS

Semi-active electronic racing suspension that adapts as you ride.

Bodywork
CARBON

Carbon-fibre fairing, with data logging to review every lap.

Why the M

The standard R1 is already a weapon. The M is for the rider who wants to know exactly what happened in every corner: lean angle, throttle, lap times, all logged and ready to study over coffee after a track day.

It's a bike that rewards commitment, which suits a rider who'd rather spend his weekend chasing a smoother line than polishing chrome.

Where
we ride

A flat country, but a dense one: a race-track legend in the north, fast dike roads everywhere, and real hills a couple of hours south.

TT Circuit Assen

The Cathedral of Speed. Home of the Dutch TT, and the place where the R1M gets to stretch its legs properly on track days.

Dike roads

Narrow ribbons of tarmac on top of the dikes, with water on one side and polders on the other. Best at sunrise, before the tractors and the cyclists.

The Ardennes

The closest real twisties: a long motorway haul south rewarded with valleys, hairpins and Belgian fries at every stop.

The
gypsy code

A few rules for a life lived on two wheels.

01

All the gear, all the time

Leathers, boots, gloves, back protector. Even for a quick run to the pomp.

02

Speed lives on track

The road is for flow. Save the stopwatch for Assen.

03

Warm tyres, warm hands

Dutch mornings are cold. Give the rubber a few kilometres before you lean on it.

04

Wave back

Every rider on the road is family. The two-finger salute is mandatory.

The Dutch
season

Riding in the Netherlands means waiting for the weather. A rough idea of how the year usually goes.
